This double album is born from the need to pay tribute to Juan Carlos Cáceres (1936-2015), precursor of an original popular genre based on history and deepest origins of the africanity of tango. Mixing jazz, candombe, milonga, murgas and the rhythms of "afro-porteña" music rooted in the estuary of Rio de la Plata, he went forming an aesthetic in his way, a construction of a personal language that introduces us into the depths of Argentine culture. The album re-edits his most famous themes and unpublished compositions. Tracks have a “variable geometry” : trio, quartet, quintet or larger line-ups. The album brings together excellent musicians from the international world music, tango and jazz scene.
This double album is born from the need to pay tribute to Juan Carlos Cáceres (1936-2015), precursor of an original popular genre based on history and deepest origins of the africanity of tango. Seduced by jazz, by " historia negada", candombe, milonga, murgas and all the rhythms that have roots in the music "afro-porteña" of the estuary of Rio de la Plata, he went forming a personal aesthetic in his way of tocàr and contàr. It has nothing to do with the ethno-musical transmission but with the construction of a language that introduces us into the depths of Argentine culture. His music breathes through the streets of Buenos Aires and his texts are used, in theses of sociology in universities of the old continent, for its deep social content. Some of his classics (such as Tango Negro, Toca Tango) are heard and danced in the milongas of the five continents. This tribute is an invitation to revisit the history of their music, the culture of a people, social criticism and the claim of African origins that penetrated South America through slaves, sailors and later by European immigrants who landed, with their Mediterranean touch in the ports of Buenos Aires and Montevideo, giving life to that unique cultural syncretism that unites the two cities. The album re-edits themes such as Toca Tango, Tango Negro, Dársena Sur, La Maga inspired by the book Rayuela by Julio Cortazar among others, including also unpublished compositions of Cáceres himself, co-written with Carlos "Tero" Buschini, bassist, creator and arranger of this project. "Tero” Buschini was part of the Tango Negro Trio, along with Juan Carlos and Marcelo Russillo, for more than 15 years, playing from the Parisian underground of Rue Rochechuard 7, to the best festivals throughout Europe, Canada, Japan, Turkey, Israel and other corners of the world, creating and presenting with Cáceres the music that will be enjoyed on this album. This tribute has a "variable geometry", phrase that Cáceres himself often pronounced: in trio, quartet, quintet or larger line-ups. This variable ensemble embrace the essential characteristics of the music of the maestro, sailing through the murky waters of both banks of the Río de la Plata to meet the soul of the beloved and unforgettable Juan Carlos. The double album brings together great musicians from the international world music, tango and jazz scene. They have joined the project because their affection and admiration they feel for the music of “El Gordo” giving birth to Le Collectif TANGO NEGRO Ensemble. Among international guests : Horacio Burgos, Sedef Arçetin, Daniel Melingo, Chino Laborde, Olivier Manoury, Minino Garay, Natalio Mangalavite and many others. Among Italian guests : Flaco Biondini, Paolo Fresu, Peppe Servillo, Fausto Becalossi, Javier Girotto and many others.
