CAMILLA BARBARITO introducing Sentimento Popolare, her debut solo CD writes, “This is a musical project born from my passion for Mediterranean folk music and more in general the South of the world”. She stole and made her own several themes and sounds from the various corners of the world giving them new original arrangements for listeners pleasure. Camilla spent the last years playing around Italy. This CD collects the tour energy, the work with a group of enthusiast and collaborative musicians deeply involved in the recording.

The project is like a free tour around the South of the World, with an intense folk feeling (as for the title) far from the philological and academic approaches. Opening with Latin America (tr.1.6), passing through Greece (tr.3,5,11), Southern Italy (tr.8,10,13), France (tr.4), touching Nino Rota (a composer always in between Italian folk culture and European classical writing- tr.7), a Senegalese song mixed with the words of Yukio Mishima (tr.8), an original waltz on the words of Spanish mystic Santa Teresa d'Avila (tr.9), a song from Italian pop singer Mina' s repertoire (tr.2) and closing the circle with Eastern Europe (tr.12).
CAMILLA BARBARITO, (b. 1978) is a Milanese singer and performer, has a unique background through a varied path of experimental theater and singing, thanks to some juvenile tours in Sub-Saharan Africa and the consequent discovery of extra-European cultures. She collaborates with various musical ensembles, and carries out her own original research in Mediterranean folk music, inspired by the Balkan sound, the Portuguese fado, and the Greek rebetika music. The Argentinian tango and Roma music are part of her musical interests. She had many experiences as actress in theater and as vocal performer in experimental and improvised performances. She worked among others with Vladimir Denissenkov, Ivana Monti, Jovica Jovic, Paolo Rossi, Roberta Torre, Agon, Teatro delle Moire, Duccio Bellugi of Theater du Soleil, Nema Problema Orkestar and Musicamorfosi, as well as numerous other protagonists of the Milanese music scene. She 'the creator of the character Nina Madù, who along with the band Reliquie Commestibili has been appreciated in the underground theater scene in Milan. Together with Fabio Marconi she is artistic director of the music series program La Cura di Dioniso for the Van-Ghè Ambulatorio d'Arte.
