In the musical world of Alessandria(Northern Italy), folk veterans TRE MARTELLI and jazz accordionist Gianni COSCIA have had various encounters during the years. Their joint love for traditional music has united them in improvising various stimulating and creative projects. After yet another participation by COSCIA in Cantè 'r Paroli (Felmay 2012), there grew a common desire to build a concert in which these different musical stories could be brought together in a more articulate way, reworking songs from TRE MARTELLI’s vast repertoire. This present album captures some live highlights of this collaboration.

In the musical world of Alessandria(Northern Italy), folk band TRE MARTELLI and jazz accordionist Gianni COSCIA have had various encounters in the course of their long careers. Their joint love for traditional music has united them in improvising various stimulating and creative projects. After yet another participation by COSCIA in the group’s album Cantè 'r Paroli (Felmay 2012), there grew a common desire to build a concert in which these different musical stories could be brought together in a more articulate way, reworking songs from TRE MARTELLI’s vast repertoire. "Ansema" (Together) captures some live highlights of this collaboration.

TRE MARTELLI (seminal northern Italian band) has been on the scene for 37 years now. They are also a valuable point of entry to the musical traditions of Piedmont, because, over the years, they have patiently reconstructed the folk music heritage of the geographical triangle between Monferrato hills, Langhe hills and Alessandrino plain, with extensions into the mountainous Canavese and Quattro Province areas, gathering together a huge repertoire of drinking and ritual songs, ballads, instrumentals and dance music including brando, monferrinas, curenta, burea, scottish, mazurka, waltz, polkas and many others. The quality and accuracy of its field work, and the attention given to stylistic variations in the area, together with energy and creative maturity of the band’s performances, have engendered enthusiastic audience response and critical acclaim, both at home and abroad. This has resulted in a huge increase in concerts, tours, performances in national TV’s and Radios (B.B.C., R.A.I., etc.), not only in Italy but also in the most part of Europe.

GIANNI COSCIA is an Italian jazz accordionist. Originally a lawyer, COSCIA began focusing full-time on jazz music. Expresses an interest in developing "the remote values of cultural and popular tradition through the language of jazz." Has toured widely on the international jazz circuit. He collaborated with Luciano Berio in the writing of the music of a stage show against antisemitism. Since 1994 with Radici (Egea) he collaborates with woodwinds-player Gianluigi Trovesi on the label ECM.
