A new band of folk music who gives new life to the traditions of Emilia.
The band was born with the intention to present the melodies and the dances of the European tradition, along a path that connects the Northern Italy roots (Apennines in particular) to the common Celtic background of the Western Europe (France, Italy, North Europe).
The most common instrument of this tradition is the bagpipe, with its many forms, but always with the same characteristic proper of all the Celtic area.
LA PIVA DAL CARNER (literally the bagpipe with the bag) is the last survived example of the bagpipe family in Emilia. Widely used till XVII century, the instruments has then been substituted by the violin. The last areas where it was used are the districts of Parma and Piacenza where it was popular till the beginning of this century.
It is from the valleys of these areas that the group takes his repertory of dances and ballads, some specific of the areas, others - though with local peculiarity - have relations with the same repertory of Northern Italy and more in general of the Celtic area. Besides these traditional tunes the group presents his own compositions inspired by the local traditional music.
The arrangements, modern but never out of the traditional contest and sound, presents a wide range of instruments, some typical as the bagpipe and the hurdy-gurdy other more modern as saxes, acoustic guitars, double bass. And the voices, of course, among the others - special guest in one track - Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, lead voice of C.S.I.
