Air sculptures is the last chapter of a trilogy dedicated to Ornette Coleman’s music, began in 2004 (Peace Warriors/Black Saint), followed in 2006 (Forgotten Children/Black Saint) completed now with this homage to Free Jazz (Atlantic), the composition/ improvisation by the double quartet that Coleman recorded in 1960, writing one the milestones of the music of ‘900. Complete the recording a series of Coleman’s compositions played by some of the performers of the suite in different Settings.

Air Sculptures completes the trilogy of works by TIZIANO TONONI dedicated to the music of Ornette Coleman, started in 2004 with (Peace Warriors/Black Saint), followed in 2006 (Forgotten Children /Black Saint) now completed with this tribute to Free Jazz (Atlantic 1960). It is not by coincidence that The Air Sculptures suite, written for nine musicians, lasts exactly 37.03 minutes (exactly as the original Coleman's recording by his double quartet) and sees
a double quartet at work, as a tribute to the great composition/ improvisation of the double quartet that Coleman recorded in December 1960, writing not only one the fundamental pages of the jazz history but of entire music of the of the '900. Round up this recording, a series of Ornette Coleman’s classic compositions originally presented by his classic quartet, reinterpreted by some of the suite performers organized in smaller groups

Born in Milan in 1956, TIZIANO TONONI began playing self-taught drums in rock bands and from the mid-'70s progressively approached jazz in its various forms. In 1978 he met the American percussionist Andrew Cyrille, with whom he began to study in New York and later, on various occasions, both in the United States and in Europe. In 1979 he joined the Civica Scuola di Musica of Milan where he studied under the guidance of David Lee Searcy, the first timpanist of the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra. In 1981 he returned to New York to study with Bob Moses and in the same year he founded with the saxophonist Daniele Cavallanti the Nexus group, a band that became known in Italy and in Europe through participation in concerts, shows and international festivals.

TIZIANO TONONI is a founding member of the Italian Instabile Orchestra, with whom he has played at major international festivals, and Nexus. He recorded for ECM, Enja, Leo Records, Black Saint, Soul Note, Splasc (h), Red Record and LongSong and has won numerous critics, national and international awards.
